Yes you read right, a no-cheese pizza. A pizza with no cheese. Not even vegan cheese. And it is incredible. Ever since switching to my plant-based diet, I have been craaaaaving pizza but you know, that cheese thing. Can’t happen.
So! To combat my gargantuan need to consume pizza in all its glory, I decided to make my own. Where I live, accessing vegan cheese is like pulling teeth and as this was a spur of the moment decision, I decided to wing it and forgo cheese altogether.
I looked around my kitchen and the internet to come up with what I would consider the perfect no-cheese pizza. Well boy am I glad i did! Not only was this pizza a masterpiece (a little hyperbole here), but the cheese and butter and all that good stuff was not missed.
Here’s my no-cheese pizza recipe. Be sure to tell me how you liked it if you decide to give it a try!
4 Hefty Slices Cook time 50 mins
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp yeast
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup warm water
- 2 cups water
- 1 cup pizza sauce
- 3/4 cup chopped white mushrooms
- 1 cup chopped fresh pineapple
- 1/2 cup diced onion
- 1 small sweet pepper (chopped)
- 1 cup chopped tomatoes
Mix sugar, yeast and warm water. Stir and leave to rise for 5 minutes.
Add yeast mixture and salt to flour and create dough by adding additional water and kneading.
Roll dough flat and place in flour dusted baking pan. Cover and let raise for 20 minutes.
Place dough in oven for 10 minutes on low heat.
Brush on/spread pizza sauce on dough and sprinkle oregano and on all toppings (sweet pepper, onions, pineapple, mushrooms).
Place in oven and let bake for 20 minutes.
Remove from oven and slice immediately (I wish I had this pizza cutter!!).
What do you think? Will you try it?
