4 Essential Tips for Moving House Stress-free

Okay, to be honest, moving house is never totally stress free. You need to sort, toss and pack. Change addresses, hire moving companies and transfer services. Can that all go totally free of hiccups? Probably not, but after having moved many times in my short lifetime (7 times within the last 8 years and 10 times overall), I can share some insight into how you can make moving house a manageable event.

Pack Early

Packing takes longer than you think. Underestimating how long it takes to pack all your belongings can bring forth massive frustration. Trust me, I’ve been there many times over. My parents moved house a few weekends ago and it took us a solid seven days to pack everything. Even on the moving day, there were still stray items that we had to just toss in a box to sort out later. Make sure to use bubble wrap or some sort of protective material for fragile items.

Label boxes by room and person

This makes life much easier. That way you can simply put your packed items in relevant rooms when unpacking and there’s no need to rummage around to find the likes of toothbrushes and socks.

Hire transport early

Where I am, we simply call up a guy/gal with a van or truck and tell them the date and time of the move and they give us a price. I know in other countries, people typically use moving companies, but either way, getting it done with time to spare will put your mind at ease.

Get help

As much as you can. This will decrease your workload immensely and get things done quicker. Unpacking is usually the most annoying part of moving house, so it’ll be great if you have family and friends that can help you. If you can find some friends to load your items unto the moving vehicle, that will save you some money as well as you usually pay more for loaders.

Other little things to note:

  • transfer services quickly to prevent discomfort in your new home.
  • Changing addresses take time so maybe you can request a reroute from the postal service in the mean time.
  • Get boxes from Supermarkets. they are usually free and abundant.
  • And finally, remember to stay calm as the process is a temporary one and soon comes to an end.
