My Evening Skincare Routine

My Evening Skincare Routine

I tend to spend a little more time on my evening skincare routine than I do in the morning time. It’s a bit therapeutic and I look forward to it. I even include my husband in my evening ritual (much to his annoyance sometimes). This is when I remove my makeup, sunblock, dust and grime from during the day and prep for the night’s overhaul.

Before I started this routine, I used one makeup removing wipe and called it a night. As I got older, my skin began to act up and was yearning for some quality care. As I noted in my Morning Routine post, I did quite a bit of research and contemplation before I developed my own routine. These steps and products were chosen based on my skin’s needs and budget.

I am still testing and finding my way through this barrage of madness call skin care so mine is very simple and quite basic. No frills and excess. I have neither the time nor money for that. I have many one trick ponies in my skincare routines and that’s just the way I like it. Get in and do what you claim. That’s all I need.

With that said, here are the steps and products in my evening skincare routine. For reference, I am 33 years old with oily combination skin. My concerns are enlarged pores, sebum control, uneven skin tone and fine lines/wrinkles.

Makeup removal

I skip this step if I didn’t wear makeup that day. I use the same Micellar Water that I use in the morning time for this.

Cleanse

Youth To The People Age Prevention Superfood Cleanser

I use Youth To the People’s Age Prevention Cleanser for this step. It caters to all skin types and is rich in antioxidants. It’s also loaded with green superfoods such as kale and does an amazing job of getting grit and remaining makeup off my face. My face feels smooth and refreshed after with no residue, tightness or dryness.

Tone / Exfoliate

Lancôme Tonique Radiance Clarifying Exfoliating Toner | The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7 % Toning Solution

I interchange two products for my evening routine for this step. I use the same toner as my morning routine on some nights and an acid toner on the others. The acid toner I use is a glycolic acid toner from The Ordinary which chemically exfoliates my face. Physical exfoliation normally strips my skin and leaves my face feeling quite raw so I switched things up a bit. There are two types of acid exfoliants – Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) and Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA). AHAs are lactic and glycolic acids and these work on the surface of your skin. While the BHAs, which comes in the form of salicylic acid goes deeper into the pores and does its magic there. BHAs are said to be better for my skin type, but I prefer to work on the surface for now as I’m new to acids.

There’s no burning or agitation with this product as it is heavily supported by plant based derivatives. My face in the morning time feels soothed and looks so much brighter. I’m also seeing less pimples and blemishes.

Treatments / Serums

The Ordinary Buffet – Multi Technology Peptide Serum | The Ordinary Advanced Retinoid 2%

For this step, like the toning and exfoliation, I switch products around. I use the Advanced 2% Retinoid from The Ordinary to address anti-aging and the Buffet serum from The Ordinary which claims to address all my areas of concern. Retinoids can be very harsh as they turn over and renew your skin, but this formula doesn’t agitate the skin. I make sure to use sufficient sunblock the following day as these can leave you quite sensitive to the sun. The Buffet is a complex formula made up of peptides, anti-oxidants and probiotics. This is the one product I can say I saw the most results from. Results were immediate and continuous. If I had to choose one serum or treatment, this would be it. My skin is always plump, bright and soft in the morning.

Oils & Moisturizers

Majestic Pure’s Rosehip Oil for Face, Nails, Hair and Skin Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel

A few months ago you could not pay me enough to put an oil on my face. But now, after doing much reading, oils are really good for your skin. Different oils work for different skin types and also depends on your age and your skin concerns. I chose rosehip seed oil to assist with diminishing the appearance of darkspots, added hydration and to work on any fine lines. You do feel as though you have oil on your face with this brand, but it only lasts a couple minutes.

I use the same moisturizer throughout my routines. This one is a gel consistency and non-greasy. It blends and soaks into the skin quickly and doesn’t leave a residue. It’s really refreshing and does a good job of sealing all my other steps in for a good nights work. I really want to try this one next.

At the end of the night, after these steps, my face feels clean, hydrated and nourished. This will be my routine for some time, however I may switch a few products just to juggle things up a bit and to try out other technologies.

So that’s it for me, what about you? What’s your routine? Do you have one?

…and thanks for stopping by!

P.S ~ In case you missed it, here is my A.M routine.

Everyone seems to love the Clinique moisturizer. Unfortunately, it just didn’t work on my crazy skin. Love seeing what other people use and love.

Definitely will be checking some of these brands out as I don’t really have a skincare routine at all (other than taking my makeup off at night and washing my face in the morning)

Like most men, I don’t think much about my skin, but it is something that deserves more attention and these tips are valuable

I really want to start using micellar water. Is it healthier than wipes? I really wanna know.

Great post! I must admit I’ve been a bit neglectful adopting a night regimine. That’s due largely in part to my denial in getting older. Skin not as fresh and flawless as it used to be in my younger days. Post has pushed me to do better!

  14. Great post. I love skincare too and am quite obsessed with my routine. I am dying yo try the Ordinary products they looks great.

I don’t have a routine so I’m following this to the last step. I hope none of the products will react with me. Thanks for sharing!
