Delicious Fluffy Buttermilk Biscuits

Delicious Fluffy Buttermilk Biscuits

Four words. I love buttermilk biscuits! They are so airy, fluffy and goes with almost anything. Any time I order out, and they sell biscuits, count on it that I’d have at least one. I recently stumbled across a buttermilk biscuits recipe while searching for something else and decided to give it a whirl.

Now cooking is not one of my strong suits and baking is even further down the list. I believe one must hold a very specific talent to bake well. And quite frankly, I do not have that. The recipe I found however looked so simple that I thought why not give it a try?

Delicious Fluffy Buttermilk Biscuits

There are so many ways to make biscuits and they’re all so easy to make that it’s impossible to decide which one to go with. There are cheese ones, ones with herbs, sweet ones, oh the list goes on and on. In the midst of this biscuit conundrum, I chose to stick with the basics for my first time. And boy am I glad I did.

It was so EASY! Since then I have done it a number of times and actually gave some as gifts. I’m that confident now. You can eat these with cheese, eggs, butter, jam, honey butter, deli meats and so, so much more.

The key to making these buttermilk biscuits fluffy and light is to not over mix your dough. I had to be very careful of that. This will only render them tough and heavy. That’s not the look and taste we want over here. Lets keep them light, fluffy, delicious and buttery! Also, make sure your butter remains cold and when cutting dough, don’t twist when pressing.

Serves 9                Cook time 15 mins

You’ll need:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 8 tablespoons cold unsalted butter
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • Salted melted butter to top (your discretion)

How to:

Sift flour and mix with all of the other dry ingredients together in a bowl.

Mix in the cold unsalted butter until the mixture is crumbly.

Add the buttermilk and mix just until combined. The dough will be sticky.

Knead dough on a flour dusted surface. Roll out to 1/2 inch thickness.

Use a biscuit cutter (I used a glass as I didn’t have one) to cut biscuits.

Place biscuits on a greased baking sheet.

Bake at 425 degrees until golden brown, approximately 15 minutes.

Lightly brush melted butter on top of the hot biscuits and enjoy!
